Floyd for President

There's nothing sweeter than a team you love winning a game you go into believing it has no chance to compete--and doing so against its bitter rival to boot! Such was the case yesterday afternoon when USC surprised everyone (including this pessimistic fan) by defeating the UCLA Bruins in style on their home court.

I give almost all the credit to their rumpled, cow-licky, young-Harrison-Ford-looking coach, Tim Floyd. Their athletes are good (some are even very good), but Floyd is the one who designed the defensive schemes that seemed to continually flummox the Bruins, and he is the one who has slowly gotten his team to believe that team is indeed the most important thing.

The Trojans still may fall flat on their faces in coming games (they are still very inexperienced as a group), but with Floyd calling the shots they will always be competitive and always work hard. A fan can't ask for more than that.

I'd prefer to see Pete Carroll for president, he has a higher likability factor, but Floyd would make a great running mate.
