I went today and cast my vote in California's primary election. I voted for Barack Obama. And while I am hopeful and optimistic about his ability (if elected president) to help usher in change, nationally and internationally, I am also realistic.
For many years now, whenever elections roll around, my thoughts as a believer have turned to Psalm 20:7. In that verse David writes:
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
Substitute "Republicans" and "Democrats" or "Obama" and "McCain" (or any other number of combinations) for "chariots" and "horses" and you get the point. Ultimately, my hope and trust is always misplaced if it is not grounded in the Living God.
Helps me to keep it all in perspective on this Super-Duper Tuesday. (But I'll still be glued to CNN tonight rooting for that skinny black man with the funny name.)
