"You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it." (John 14:14)
Why is this hard to believe? Why does this sound too good to be true? Perhaps it is b/c I come at it from a worldview rooted in selfishness. I want more: more money, more friends, more possessions, etc. I think I need to remember John 15 where Jesus adds the qualifier, "if you remain in me and I in you..." The person who remains in Christ desires God's own heart. That person's will should, therefore, be in line w/God's will. Thus, in asking for the desires of our hearts, we are asking for what God wants too. And then there's the Spirit. Romans 8:27 says that the Spirit intercedes in our lives in accordance with God's will. Remaining in Christ, the desires of our hearts are inspired by the Spirit and we end up asking for God's own design. But the key to it all is remaining in Christ. This is so hard to do in a world that seduces and fights for my attention.
