"...let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably w/reverence and awe." (Hebrews 12:28)

I think I sometimes lose that sense of reverence and awe in approaching God. I've been taught so much that Jesus is my buddy & that it's easy to talk to him (the irreverent movie Dogma comes to mind), that sometimes I come to God flippantly, perhaps without the respect that God warrants. Where is the balance? How to approach God as a friend & yet also as a King? Maybe that's another reason we need Christ. We confess Christ to be, among other things, our mediator, the great high priest. Perhaps he acts, then, to take our casualness and transform it into reverence. Or, our feeling of awe and unworthiness and turns it into intimacy. I'm not sure how it works and I'm okay with that. Mediate for me today, my Lord and my Savior. Draw me to the Father and heal me of all that is broken. Let me rest in your presence & soak up your transforming love...like a sponge, allow me to absorb your Spirit. Then squeeze me. Squeeze me and pour our your love and Spirit from me onto others. Use me. Amen.
