I received a giftcard to Borders and so I purchased a couple of CD's, one of which is a new Bettie Serveert album. I've just finished surrounding myself with its noise and now the silence is dramatic. I feel drawn to both. There is something very freeing and anonymous about being lost in music; and there is something akin to being found in the quiet. For me, the ache or the abandon that music evokes prepares me--or leads me--to the silence. They are strange bedfellows, but it works.
