The Heart of the Matter

I finally finished this book about a week ago. For whatever reason it was a bit harder to get into this one--perhaps a newborn and packing up for a move are not conducive to concentrating on plot.

This is the third of Greene's four "Catholic" novels that I have read. (Just Brighton Rock remains.) I liked The End of the Affair and The Power and the Glory more, but there is no shame in coming in third to those excellent books.

James Wood gives a wonderful introduction to the edition I have--worth reading--and I was also able to track down the NY Times original review of the book from 1948.
