A Strange Parental Pride

Today is the 50th birthday for Barbie, that voluptuous doll that never seems to sag or wrinkle; the blond who starts the brainwashing of our daughters at an early age, communicating a feminine ideal that the vast majority of them will never achieve this side of cosmetic surgery.

According to Mattel spokeswoman Lauren Dougherty, 90% of girls between the ages of 3-10 own a Barbie. Today I am proud that my almost 6-year old does not have one. Hold strong, Riley, hold strong.

Happy birthday Babs...

Yes. I too am proud that our Riley isn't into barbies. Although, she does have a HSM doll. That doesn't count does it?

um, yeah. thanks alot. i wanted to be in bed nearly two hours ago, but this blog post made me post more on my blog. perhaps i will hold you responsible for sleep deprivation. oh wait, better not complain since i don't have an infant. on THAT note, from your title i was scared... i am SO GLAD i didn't see a picture of a dirty diaper... you know, pride in Wes that he's doin what he's supposed to be doin and all.

I preferred lego's, g.i. joe's and dirt as a little girl... unfortunately the lies still sank in...
Riley will be just fine and I'm proud of you for being the strong 10%!
